Video Transcript:

Good relationships are essential to our health and wellbeing, yet unmanaged or chronic stress makes it difficult for us to enjoy our relationships or contribute to them in positive ways. Stress can cause you to be impatient, irritable, short tempered, overbearing, aloof, self-absorbed or overly sensitive, which all put a strain on your relationships and create further stress.

If you have children, you may find yourself unable to be present to your children or offer them the energy required to interact with them in patient and meaningful ways.

If you have a partner, you may find yourself projecting your personal dissatisfactions by picking on their habits or taking out your personal frustrations on them.

When it comes to your colleagues, stress can bring out competitive and resentful attitudes, that can destroy team dynamics and supportive networks.

Relationships can also be the stressors or cause of stress in our lives. It is beneficial to examine the relationships you have and create a plan of action for how you would like to improve the ones that hold meaning and value for you, and how you will transition away from ones that are not healthy for you. For most effective results, focus on practicing mindfulness, peaceful conflict resolution, and open and honest communication in all of your relationships.
